During our stay in Santorini we spent 4 nights in Kivotos Santorini. It was our first time on the island and we were not quite sure what to expect from the whole trip. For sure, we thought there must be some beautiful places and the whole geography of the island is quite interesting, but we were a bit afraid of average hotels for masses of tourists. Kivotos looked very individual to us, with an attractive location to get around the island, so we tried it and want to share our experience with you.
Getting to Kivotos Santorini
After arriving at the airport in Santorini we took a taxi to the hotel. Since the island is really small, we reached the hotel after only 15 minutes and could start our stay with 25 degrees weather.
Arrival and Check-In at Kivotos Santorini
Without waiting times we could immediately get our keys. The staff was well prepared and even brought the bags to our rooms after a short time. An offer we did not take was to get a tour through the whole property.
About the hotel
Kivotos Santorini is an exclusive boutique hotel that is quite unique among the other local hotels that came into place during the last years. With its black and modern exterior walls, it stands out from the rest of the landscape and makes a nice view.
The hotel has a total of 4 suites and 3 villas. With this rather small size we didn’t encounter too many people in the property and could enjoy a relaxed atmosphere at all times. Since the place just opened in 2019, everything felt like it was never used before!
One highlight is certainly the incredible view from the hotel terrace where you can find the restaurant. From there, you can see the whole island, whether it is the southernmost point in Santorini (Akrotiri Lighthouse) or the very north of Oia.
Our Executive Suite at Kivotos Santorini
We spent a total of 4 nights in the Executive Suite, which is spread over 2 floors. On the ground floor there is a balcony next to the entrance on which we enjoyed a daily breakfast while watching the sun rise. On the ground floor we were surprised when we found a well-equipped living room in the suite with Sonos speakers that could be used via iPad.
When we further explored the suite, we found the bathroom to be a welcoming place with rain shower and color LEDs integrated in the wall, inviting for an extensive body cleaning session. Upstairs, the bedroom as well as another balcony with private loungers and a breathtaking view over the sea and sunset made us not want to leave the suite for some time. Especially at night this was our favorite place since there was also a Jacuzzi on the balcony.
The terrace and food at Kivotos Santorini
Every morning, breakfast was brought to our room with a huge variety of foods available from fruits, fresh bakery and delicious sweets, accompanied by juices, coffee and tea. We could even handpick our food wishes – and they made it just for us! Especially from the terrace, having this individual breakfast was highly enjoyable.
When we preferred to have food in a more public setting, the restaurant and pool area of the hotel were the place to go located on a beautiful terrace. After some time we found the restaurant dinner during sunset to be a major highlight of the whole trip. The fabulous food made by one of Greece’s aspiring star chefs paired with the unique atmosphere made an authentic experience that we won’t forget quickly.
Final Thoughts
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at Kivotos. The modern hotel, combined with the first class service and the unique caldera location offers everything you could ask for if you are seeking a relaxing and memorable stay in Santorini.
