One of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe and especially in Germany, Berlin is something that you simply have to experience at least once in your life. Besides its political and historical importance, Berlin is nowadays a hub for young entrepreneurs, artists and creative people from all over the world who make the city one of the most diverse places in Germany. In case you asked yourself where you should stay when you go to Berlin, we took a look at the 10 best hotels in Berlin that you might want to take a look at!

1. Soho House

The Soho House has been founded in London and evolved to a global network of people and travelers, mostly from the creative industries. In its vision, Soho House wants to create a relatively exclusive space for those who do not want the standard hotel stay and be more around like-minded people. If you are a member, you can enjoy access to amazing food, suites and bars as well as pools and a cinema! It is however not that easy to become a member and you have to fill out an application form for that. Once you’re in, you could get into all the different Soho Houses in the world depending on your membership. If you are lucky you might even spot celebrities such as George Clooney or Leonardo Di Caprio!

2. Orania

Right in the district of Kreuzberg, a culturally mixed and controversially discussed part of Berlin, you will find Hotel Orania. It derived its name from its location at “Oranienplatz” and was just opened a few years ago, so you can expect a highly modern and well-maintained place. With more than 40 rooms and suites, the hotel is targeting the luxury segment of travelers but for those who can afford, it is a very comfortable and service-oriented accommodation where you can truly lay back. Especially the lounge area with its live piano music invites for a chillout evening while treating yourself a glass of whisky!

3. Hotel Adlon Kempinski

One of the most famous hotels in Germany, the Hotel Adlon Kempinski is for sure also one of the best hotels in Berlin. Located right next to the main sight of Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate, you will always be in the center of the city and wake up to some great views. The hotel itself has quite a long history, even though it was rebuilt after the union of East and West Germany. Once you are checked in, there are 3 restaurants to choose from, so you must not be looking for other restaurants if you are very hungry. If you do not have the need to eat something, the hotel also offers very good spa facilities in the basement with a Roman-style pool area!

4. Hotel am Steinplatz

Close to the famous Berlin Zoo, the Hotel am Steinplatz welcomes you as part of the Marriott Group. Even though it is considered a high-class luxury boutique hotel, you will be able to get really good deals depending on the season and if you are lucky you could get a really good room for less than 130€. If you choose one of the more expensive rooms, you will get a private balcony with a relatively big bed and bathroom that really make you want to stay inside at times. Of course you will also find a wellness area with saunas and fitness room here.

5. Das Stue Berlin

If you decide to stay at the Stue, you will be right in the embassy district next to the embassies of Spain and Georgia and have the green spots of Berlin Zoo right behind you. A luxury hotel in one of the most exclusive areas of the city, the Stue requires you to have deep pockets – but it can be really worth it. Once you enter, an ancient animal skull greeting you in the middle of marble stairways already make you feel like you are in a palace and the whole staff is continuously working on keeping that feeling alive!

6. Steigenberger Hotel

Part of the German Steigenberger Group, the Berlin branch benefits from decades of hotelier expertise. The luxury character is already represented by the hotel’s location close to the Kudamm – the most expensive shopping mile in Berlin! The exterior might not make travelers expect a high-class hotel but once you are inside, you will immediately stop worrying about any quality issues. Besides its more than 300 well-designed rooms, guests can book one of the fancy suites and access the spa area with pool and sauna!

7. Pullman Schweizerhof

When entering the lobby of the Pullman right at Berlin Zoo, you already know that this is one of the best hotels in Berlin. The whole design and welcoming service is perfectly matching the hotels claim to provide an unprecedented guest experience and the good news is that the lobby is just the beginning of your stay. For the rooms you have the choice from a few categories which are quite similar in design but vary in terms of size and equipment. Take some time for yourself in the steam room and sauna, swim a few rounds in the pool and get ready for a night out in Berlin in the spacious rooms that the Pullman offers!

8. Waldorf Astoria

Even though we just mention the Waldorf Astoria now, it definitely belongs to our list of the best hotels in Berlin. Just like the previous hotels, it is located around Berlin Zoo and is the only hotel of the Waldorf Astoria Group that you can find in Germany. So if you are there, why not try? The prices start quite high but for that you already get really fancy rooms with beautiful marble bathrooms in the lowest room category. When you get up in the morning, you can look forward to one of the best breakfasts you can expect in any Berlin hotel – but you have to pay extra. That could be really worth it though and we believe that it is a good idea to spend a few Euros to start the day in the best way! A special thing about the Waldorf Astoria is also the library lounge with a gentlemens club atmosphere and amazing views over the city. Of course, a spa area must not be missing here and you can relax until the evening in some of the pool and sauna facilities.

9. Regent Berlin

Finally a hotel that is not located right next to Berlin Zoo! However, if you really like animals you can still reach the zoo in less than 20 minutes walking distance. The Regent has an excellent location right in the middle of Berlin and is very accessibly by public transport through the subway stop “Französische Straße”. Right around the hotel you will have many sights such as the Bundestag, the Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt or Monbijoupark. Inside the hotel you will feel like in a marble wonderland and everything you see basically looks like from a movie. Even the lobby has marble floor and furniture and the rooms certainly belong to the most classic ones that you could ask for! For an experience different from other places, the Regent is definitely one of the best hotels in Berlin.

10. Grand Hyatt

Last but not least, the Grand Hyatt completes our list of the best hotels in Berlin. You probably know the name Hyatt and expect a unique staying experience there – do not worry about being disappointed. The hotel really has it all, with a perfect location, great service and rooms. Just be cautious when booking since some of the rooms have much better views over the city than others!

Berlin, du bist so wunderbar

A German saying that many travelers found to be true: Berlin, you are wonderful! The city is a true cultural center and you could easily spend a week or more here. Besides the fun parties and good restaurants, Berlin has a lot of cultural sights for which you need more than a day and spend your nights somewhere. Hopefully our overview of the best hotels in Berlin helped a bit to get a feeling for the level of service and quality you can expect in the German capital, so the next step is just to enjoy yourself in this great city!

Have you ever thought about visiting Berlin, the capital of Germany and one of the biggest cities in Europe? We have looked into the best things to do in Berlin to make sure that you can feel the city’s vibe and the unique story it has to tell. Even if you have never planned to go to Berlin, our top 10 recommendations for Berlin might change your mind!

Here is a guide to all the best things to do in Berlin!

1. Reichstag Building

Close to the city center you will find the German parliament in which various political events take place. Visitors can enjoy an amazing view over the city from the rooftop terrace, but you should make a reservation a day in advance because there might be a huge demand for tickets. The imposing glass dome on the Reichstag is an architectural masterpiece and has been part of several movies and art projects, for instance when it was completely wrapped in an aluminium layer by Christo and Jeanne-Claude in the 1995. Around the Reichstag area you will also find many government buildings, such as the Federal Chancellery but also the Brandenburg Gate, our second favorite spot.

2. Brandenburg Gate

Undoubtedly, it is the symbol of the city and the reunification of Germany: the Brandenburg Gate. Completed in 1791, it was just one of many old city gates back in the days. In front of the gate, a decorative square named Pariser Platz was created where many important buildings of the city are still located today, such as the historic Hotel Adlon or the Academy of Arts.

3. Fernsehturm

Already visible from far away and with 368 meters the highest building in Berlin, the Fernsehturm is one of the most commonly used symbols for Berlin. Built in the 1960s, it offers visitors a unique 360° panorama view over the city. Traveling up with the lift is for sure one of the best things to do in Berlin and you can easily reach it by public transport as it is located directly on Alexanderplatz, the center of the old East Berlin.

4. Gendarmenmarkt

In the immediate vicinity of Friedrichstrasse, the exclusive shopping street in Berlin-Mitte, you will find the Gendarmenmarkt as one of the most beautiful squares in Berlin. With its concert hall designed by Schinkel as well as the German Cathedral and the French Cathedral, there are three architectural highlights and cafés in which you can especially have a good time in summer. From Gendarmenmarkt you can also get around other top attractions easily by using hop-on buses that go from the square all the time.

5. Berliner Dom

The dome of Berlin is one of the most beautiful buildings Berlin has to offer and. Nearby you will also find the German Historical Museum and the Museum Island which is designed in an ancient style. A lot of people come here during the summer time to relax in the sun on the green area in front of the dome or to have a cold drink in the evening right next to the waters which you can find here. For a chill time with your friends, this is definitely one of the best things to do in Berlin.

6. Kurfürstendamm

The Kurfürstendamm extends from the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church to Berlin’s upmarket residential area on the Halensee. It is Berlin’s most popular shopping street, where the most exclusive brands and major fashion chains have settled, for instance in the KaDeWe which is the largest department store on the European mainland. On KaDeWe’s rooftop you can also enjoy a delicious dinner which is highly recommended!

7. Schloss Charlottenburg

Just outside the center the magnificent Charlottenburg Palace is a major landmark. It was once owned by the Prussian head of state Friedrich III. Built around 1700 for his beloved and admired wife Sophie-Charlotte, it lies in the midst of a castle park directly at the Spree river. If you do not want to walk through the park, you can also visit the Charlottenburg museum which is placed directly opposite in the Schloßstraße.

8. Museum Island

The Berlin Museum Island is a UNESCO world heritage and you will find the city’s major exhibition venues here: the Alte Museum, the Neues Museum, the Bode Museum, the Pergamon Museum and the Alte Nationalgalerie. With their collections, the houses present more than 6,000 years of art and cultural history.

9. Berlin Wall Memorial

On Bernauer Straße between the districts of Wedding and Mitte we suggest to explore the Berlin Wall Memorial. It consists of the monument to the victims of the division, a documentation center and the chapel of reconciliation. Thanks to a preserved wall section with watchtower, you can still visit the border fortifications today.

10. Potsdamer Platz

Before the Second World War, Potsdamer Platz was the busy center of the city but after 1945 and until the reunification its previous meaning for residents of the city became less relevant. However, after 1989 it completely changed again and today the Sony Center, skyscrapers and countless stores characterize this area as an important city hub. If you want to see some celebrities passing by, Potsdamer Platz is the place where you might find most of them – not just during the film festival!

What to expect from your trip to Berlin

When going to Europe, most people immediately think of visiting France or the United Kingdom – but in fact, Germany is a fascinating country to see and you could easily spend a few weeks here. Over the last years it has greatly gained in popularity, but its best spots are still not very well-known among travelers. Get your backpack ready as we show you the best places to visit in Germany!

1. German North Sea

You might not expect Germany to be a beach paradise but in fact it has some lovely places directly at the sea. At its northern borders, the North Sea is one of the best places to visit in Germany with places such as Sylt and Norderney that do what they promise: giving you a very northern experience! Besides the relaxing atmosphere with long beaches and salty air that is really refreshing, there are lots of activities you can do here in nature, such as walking across the mudflats. Also, the local governments understand what kinds of gems they have and strictly prohibit the usage of cars in most areas.

2. Berlin

Graffiti on the Berlin Wall

The first city among the best places to visit in Germany, Berlin definitely deserves a prominent spot. Anyone visiting Germany should at least spend a day or two in the capital which has evolved into a highly multicultural place with many different individual lifestyles over the past decades. A special thing in Berlin is that there is not a typical “Berlin person” but rather each district has its very own unique character and basically everyone can find its place somewhere. Besides the historic side and many architectural monuments that also stem from the political standing Berlin has, the city is also famous for its nightlife and music scene.

3. German Baltic Sea

Whether you just want to spend a few days here or do a full vacation: The German Baltic Sea has a lot of islands where you can have a relaxing time that are a bit different from the ones you find at the North Sea. A famous spot is Rügen which features some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the region as well as national parks and the fascinating natural spot of the “Kreidefelsen”.

4. Hamburg

With one of the largest harbors in Europe, Hamburg is of great economic importance and is generally characterized by its location at the sea. The people kind of have a northern attitude and are extremely friendly, which might be due to the high density of good foods. While you are in Hamburg, definitely try some fish sandwich with fresh food from the sea and also visit the Elbphilharmonie!

5. Saxon Switzerland

In the eastern part of Germany you will find Saxon Switzerland with its stunning rock formations and sceneries as one of the best places to visit in Germany. Whether you are hiking around the area or simply pass by on your road trip, make sure to stop for some time and enjoy the amazing views you can get here on the Bastei Bridge, especially when the sun sets.

6. Munich

The main city of southern Germany has a very own culture and often people say that the whole state of Bavaria is kind of a separate country. Munich is famous for its beer, food and laid back lifestyle with some of the best natural spots of Germany right in front of the door. While living in Munich is relatively expensive, it can be a great place for a few days of vacation and if you are lucky you can even experience the Oktoberfest in the end of September!

7. Allgäu

Close to Munich, the Allgäu region certainly belongs to the best places to visit in Germany. Not only filled with amazing landscapes close to the Alps but also featuring stunning castles and lakes, the area will definitely leave you with good memories. Especially for the nature fans among us, Allgäu is a must see when you are traveling in Germany!

8. Neuschwanstein

Far in the south of Germany you will find the country’s most iconic and popular tourist destination: Neuschwanstein! King Ludwig II created this gem of a castle on top of the mountains, which makes a picture like from a fairytale in any season. However, there is usually a high demand but if you do not mind queuing up for some time to get your tickets, this is one of the best places to visit in Germany – and probably you won’t be able to see something comparable anywhere else.

9. Königssee

If you already made it to the south, stop by Königssee close to the Alps. With the clear waters of the Königssee lake and the mountains in the background, the place is perfect to lie back and relax in a truly natural setting. The natural park around this area is also worth a visit with domestic species that you might not have seen before!
